Fire Retardant Coatings

IFES supplies fire retardant coatings for two critical passive fire protection applications: fire retardant paint for timber and wood surfaces and fire retardant coating for electrical cables. These coatings slow the rate of flame spread and smoke development on treated surfaces, providing additional time for evacuation and fire containment in the event of a fire.

Fire retardant wood paint is applied to structural and non-structural timber elements — wooden framing, ceiling boards, wall panelling, furniture, and decorative timber — reducing the surface flame spread classification and meeting NBC 2016 interior finish requirements. Cable fire retardant coating is applied to electrical cables in cable trays, risers, and switchgear rooms to delay fire propagation along cable runs.
