Fire Alarm System Supply, Installation and Commissioning
A fire alarm system earns its cost in the minutes between ignition and evacuation. Detection has to be early, the alarm has to be audible everywhere it matters, and the panel has to tell the responding team exactly where the fire is. We design, supply and commission both addressable and conventional systems to the detection and alarm requirements of NBC 2016 Part IV.
Addressable versus conventional
A conventional system tells you a zone is in alarm. An addressable fire alarm system tells you the device. On a large floor plate that difference is several minutes of search time. Conventional panels remain appropriate for small premises with few zones; addressable is the practical choice anywhere the building is large enough that a zone covers more than one room.
System components
- Fire alarm panel — addressable or conventional, with repeater panels where a second monitoring point is required.
- Smoke, heat and multi-criteria detectors selected for the ceiling height and the expected fire type.
- Manual call points, response indicators, hooters and sounder-strobes.
- Interfaces to sprinkler flow switches, hydrant pumps, magnetic door holders and lift homing.
Integration with passive fire protection
Detection is only half the system. The alarm must release held-open fire doors and drop fire curtains so the compartment actually closes. Because we manufacture the fire doors as well, the interface between the alarm panel and the door hold-open devices is specified once, by one supplier, instead of being argued between two.
