Wooden Fire Door — ISI Mark IS:3614, 60/120 Min, CBRI Roorkee Tested

Wooden fire doors combine the warmth and visual appeal of natural timber with certified passive fire protection, making them the door of choice wherever building aesthetics and fire safety compliance must coexist. The IFES wooden fire door is manufactured with frames of Mirandi Teak, Teakwood, or Ivory Coast Teak — dense hardwood species selected for their dimensional stability, workability, and ability to retain intumescent seal and hinge fixings under fire conditions.

Construction

The door frame is constructed from hardwood in single-rebate (100×57 mm) or double-rebate (143×57 mm) profiles to suit single-leaf and double-leaf configurations respectively. The shutter consists of 3 mm plywood face skins on both sides enclosing a mineral wool sandwich core — mineral wool being the preferred insulation for fire doors due to its non-combustibility, dimensional stability at elevated temperatures, and consistent insulation performance throughout the fire test duration.

Intumescent seals are factory-fitted into the door frame rebate perimeter. On exposure to heat above approximately 150°C, the intumescent material expands to seal the gap between the door leaf and frame, blocking flames and hot gases. Cold smoke seals are fitted to prevent the passage of cold smoke at ambient temperatures, critical for maintaining smoke-free escape routes in the early stages of a fire event before the intumescent activates.

Fire Rating and Testing

The IFES wooden fire door achieves 60-minute (FD60) and 120-minute (FD120) fire resistance ratings as tested and certified under BS:476 Part 20-22 and IS:3614-2021 at the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee. The ISI Mark on each door certifies that it has been manufactured under a BIS-licensed quality management system subject to ongoing surveillance, matching the tested assembly.

Hardware and Finishes

All IFES wooden fire doors are supplied with IS:3614-specified hardware: three stainless steel ball-bearing butt hinges per leaf (100×75 mm or 100×100 mm), overhead door closer (EN-rated, by door size and weight), and intumescent + smoke seals. Optional items include panic bars, mortise locks, electromagnetic hold-open devices, automatic drop-down bottom seals, and fire-rated glass vision panels. Surface finish options: paint (any colour) or veneer to match interior design requirements.

NBC 2016 Part IV specified applications: hotel corridor doors, residential apartment entrance doors, hospital ward corridor doors, school and university exit doors, office floor egress doors, and any interior location requiring a 60-minute or 120-minute fire-rated door in a warm aesthetic.
