Soundproof and Acoustic Doors
A door is almost always the weakest acoustic element in a wall. A 55 dB partition with an ordinary door in it performs like a 30 dB partition, because sound takes the easiest path. A genuine sound proof door is an engineered assembly — a dense multi-layer leaf, a sealed frame, perimeter gaskets and an automatic drop seal at the threshold.
Acoustic performance
Acoustic doors are specified by their weighted sound reduction index, Rw. A single-leaf acoustic door typically achieves 35–45 dB; higher figures need a heavier leaf or an acoustic lobby with two doors and an air gap. The rating only holds if the installation gap is sealed and the drop seal actually contacts the floor — on site, that detail fails more often than the door itself.
Acoustic fire doors
Recording studios, hospital operation theatres, hotel corridors, conference rooms and auditoria usually need both performance at once. Our acoustic fire door range combines an FD60 or FD120 fire rating with tested sound insulation in a single certified assembly, rather than layering acoustic treatment onto a fire door and hoping both ratings survive.
Applications
- Recording studios, broadcast suites and rehearsal rooms.
- Hospitals — operation theatres, ICUs and consulting rooms.
- Hotels, board rooms, auditoria and cinema halls.
- Generator rooms, pump rooms and plant areas, where the noise is being kept in rather than out.
What we need to quote
Required Rw, whether a fire rating is needed, opening size, floor finish at the threshold and the wall construction. Soundproof door price is driven almost entirely by the target dB figure.
