Fire Curtain and Fire Shutter Systems
Some openings are simply too large for a door. Atrium voids, mall shopfronts, kitchen service counters, production line openings and vehicle access points all need to become a fire barrier on alarm and then disappear again for daily use. A fire curtain system does exactly that: a fibreglass fabric barrier rolled into a headbox, invisible in normal operation, descending automatically on a signal from the fire alarm panel.
Fire curtains
- Vertical curtains in 60 and 120 minute ratings for shopfronts, atrium edges and large wall openings.
- Smoke curtains that channel smoke into reservoirs so extraction can work and the escape route stays clear.
- Gravity-fail descent — the curtain closes on power failure, not only on command.
- Controlled descent with an audible warning and an obstruction sensor where the curtain crosses an escape route.
Fire rated roller shutters
Where the opening also needs physical security — warehouse dispatch bays, plant room access, service yards — a fire shutter in insulated steel lath gives both the fire rating and the closure. Motorised operation with a fail-safe release is standard.
Interface with the alarm system
A fire curtain is only useful if it drops. The release must be wired to a monitored output on the fire alarm panel and tested in the cause-and-effect commissioning, with the descent path kept clear by design rather than by instruction. We handle that interface as part of the supply.
Servicing
Annual drop tests, fabric inspection and motor servicing under an AMC, with a test record for each unit.
